Sonoma Coast State Park Pomo Canyon Campground California

Sonoma Coast State Park Pomo Canyon Overview

Pomo Canyon 001

Pomo Canyon Environmental Campground has about 21 walk-to (tent only) campsites set among a beautiful redwood grove in Sonoma Coast State Park. All sites are first-come, first-serve. The campground is usually open mid March through early October.

All of the campsites have day-long shade from the towering redwoods. Each site also has a table, fire ring and grill. Campsites 1-10 are up on the hill and sites 11-21 are along a creek.  Our favorite sites (14, 15, 16, 19, 20 and 21) are along the creek. The walk/hike from the parking area ranges from 1/4 mile (site 1) to 3/4 of a mile (site 21).

Amenities include porta-potty / vault toilets. Water is not available. Dogs/pets are also not allowed in the campground, trials or roads.  Cell service is not available.  All gear/trash must be packed in and out.

Area Recreation & Activities

Outdoor recreation in the area includes hiking, mountain biking, photographing, picnicking and wildlife viewing.  Willow Creek and the Russian River are nearby. And you’re about 4.5 miles from the nearest beach (Blind Beach) next to the ocean.

Other Sonoma Coast State Park campgrounds include Willow Creek Environmental, Bodega Dunes and Wrights Beach.
