South Fork Campground in the Angeles National Forest has 21 single-family campsites and is located on the backside of the San Gabriel Mountains. All campsites are first-come, first-serve. The beautiful campground is nestled in a steep canyon with access to trails along Big Rock Creek and to nearby Devil’s Punchbowl.
Campsites are large and can accommodate tents, trailers and RVs. Each campsite also has a table, fire ring and grate. Campground amenities include drinking water and vault toilets. There’s also a picnic area at the campground.
The area offers beautiful scenery and some great hiking and horseback riding trails. Trails along Big Rock Creek towards Islip Saddle are popular, as is the Manzanita Trail towards Vincent’s Gap or west to the Devil’s Punchbowl. The secluded area is also great for stargazing. You may also catch a fish or two in the creek. Wildlife viewing is also great here with opportunities to see Big Horn Sheep.
Other campgrounds in the area include Sycamore Flats and Big Rock. Saddleback Butte State Park is also about 22 miles away.

We went by two months ago, just a day escape, we felt in love with the place. Now we are planning a picnic day on the weekend of July 9th 22.
