Sue-meg State Park (formerly Patrick’s Point State Park) Campground has 124 campsites and is located next to a beautiful beach among large coastal Redwoods trees in Northern California. There are no hookkups. The campground is laid out in 3 loops – Penn, Abalone and Agate. Campsite are reservable from May through September, and are first-come, first-serve other times of the year. Some campsite are also first-come, first-serve throughout the year. Group camping is also available (reservable year round) and there are also 4 cabins available to rent in Agate campground.
Campground amenities include flush toilets, hot showers ($), drinking and drinking water. There’s also a campfire center, group picnic area, and hike/bike campsites.
Campsites can accommodate tents, trailers and RVs. Each campsite has a table, fire ring and grate. Each campsite also has a table, food locker, fire ring and grill. Check out time is noon and check in time is 2PM.
Sue-meg State Park Area Recreation
The area is great for beach-combing, surfing and coastal exploring. Other outdoor recreation includes hiking, biking and wildlife viewing.
Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park is also about 20 miles north on Highway 101 and has two campgrounds: Elk Prairie and Gold Bluffs Beach.

Are camp sites arable this week??

There are only a few campsites available (most only 1 night, a couple with 2 nights) the week of May 31. Memorial Day weekend is sold out. You can click on the ‘Make A Reservation’ button to check availability, pricing and reserve.
Which sites can accommodate a trailer with total length of 27 feet and a small slideout?

The photos of Patrick’s Point State Park should give you a pretty good idea of what sites will fit a 27 foot trailer/RV with a small slide out.
However, you can also click on the ‘Make A Reservation’ button to check availability, pricing and make a reservation. Sometimes ReserveCalifornia also has specifications for each campsite.
We have camped here twice in the past two years and with everything going on I wanted to ask if there is first come first serve? Or are all sites have to be reserved in advance ?

The campground is laid out in 3 loops – Penn, Abalone and Agate. Penn (sites 1-15) and Abalone (sites 16-85) are reservable from May through September, and are first-come, first-serve other times of the year. The Agate loop campsites are first come first serve. Because of the Covid restrictions (50% capacity), it may be difficult to get a first-come, firs-serve site, especially around the weekends. You can click on the ‘Make A Reservation’ button to check availability, pricing and make a reservations for the reservable campsites.
We have had a reservation for nearly 6 months in the Agate loop, but above you say that it’s only first come first serve. I have not had any correspondence indicating that our reservation has changed??? We are assuming we still have our same spot starting on the 13th. Would that be an accurate assumption? Thanks.

Patrick’s Point State Park campground is open and your reservation is good. During ‘normal’ years, the campsites are reservable May through September. Other times of the year they are first-come, first-serve. Have a great trip!
We’re planning a trip to Patrick’s Point in October. On the Reserve California website, it looks like some campsites in the Agate campground can be reserved, even though the campground overview says these are first-come first-serve after September. The Abalone campground site reservations are grayed out/unavailable. Is it possible to reserve a specific site in the Agate for a couple of days in October or is is strictly first-come first-serve?

Agate Campground / camping area at Patrick’s Point State Park campsites takes reservations throughout the year, the other campgrounds (Abalone, Penn Creek) are first-come, first-serve in October. You won’t be able to reserve a site ahead of time in October. There should be plenty of availability though.
I am researching the possibility of cabin rental in the Agate campground for my elderly mom. Can you provide pictures and descriptions that I can pass on to her?

I have not had any notification indicating that my reservation has changed. We are camping in the Abalone loop. Our reservation is from 9/6/20 to 9/13/20. Is it safe to assume the campgrounds are open? We have a 7 hour drive and want to make sure we are good to go.

According to California State Parks page and Patrick’s Point State Park – it is open (including the campground). If it closes, ReserveCalifornia.com would contact you regarding your reservation and the closure. As of today, 09/10/20, is Patrick’s Point campground open? I have a reservation for 09/14/20, but I’ve seen news headlines yesterday & today that all CA state parks, forests, and campgrounds are closed due to the wildfires.

As of today (September 11), Patrick’s Point State Park is open (including the campground). ReserveCalifornia will contact you if it closes prior to your trip. You can also call ReserveCalifornia to double check at: 800-444-7275
Just to be clear and sorry if this is redundant, but if Reserve California shows sites as unavailable for October it’s because they are now first-come first-serve and cannot be reserved, correct? Therefore we should be confident that a site would be available during a weekend in October. Is this a reasonable assumption? Thanks.

Agate campground/camping loop (campsites 86-124) are available to reserve in October and year round. I’m not positive if the other campsites (Abalone and Penn Creek campsites) are first-come, first-serve or closed due to Covid restrictions. You may want to check with ReserveCalifornia: 800-444-7275.

I see the comments about the park being closed and we have cabin reservations for next week. I have not received any notice from ReserveCalifornia that our reservations were cancelled. We have a 6 hour drive….hmmmm….

We’re getting conflicting reports on whether Patrick’s Point State Park is closed or not. I recommend you call both ReserveCalifornia (1-800-444-7275) and Patrick’s Point State Park (707-677-3570) to confirm.

You can have up to 2 vehicles and 8 people at campsite #89. An RV counts as one vehicle. An overflow parking area is available. Also, you can have both a small RV and a tent. Have a great time!
Hi, we are a scout group looking for group camping. There is only one group site available. Do you have recommendations for individual sites that are ideal for group camping if group site is not available? Thank you.
We have a reservation coming up this weekend but will have at least 2 and possibly 3 vehicles since our group is coming from different parts of the state. I see there is an option to pay an fee for an additional vehicle but is there accomodations for a third? For example, is there overflow parking? Trying to figure out if we will need to plan to consolidate somehow prior to arrival. Thanks.

You list site 101 in Patrick’s Point/Sue-meg as a favorite site but that site is not on the official map or the reservation website. Do you know if campsites have been renumbered?

There are some campsites that are first-come, first-serve and not listed on the reservation website. Campsite #101 does exist. You can see where it is located (Agate Loop) on the official State Park campground map (click on the ‘campground map’ button).
On the reservation site many of the sites are listed as Walk-in only. Does this mean first come first serve or is it walk-in tent sites only?

Good question. The campsites “walk-in” campsites are reservable (not first come first serve). A better description should be “walk-to” (that’s what we try and use). The tent campsites require a bit of a walk to get to the campsite.
I was hesitant to book lot #114 because on the reserve california map it only shows up when zooming out and appears to be on the far left of agate campground. Is it actually further out or is this just a bug on the page? Also would you recommend all of the sites for tent camping?

Campsite #114 (Agate Loop / Sue-meg State Park) exists and is reservable. Not sure why it does not show up on the ReserveCalifornia map . . . must be a glitch. Can speak to all of the campsites being good for tent camping, but most have room for tent(s).
