Union Flat Campground has 11 nice campsites located along the banks of the North Yuba River in Tahoe National Forest. Towering pines provide nice shade to the mostly large and level campsites.
Amenities include potable (drinking) water, trash recycle and vault toilets. Each campsite also has a table, fire ring and grill. Cell service is not available.
Outdoor recreation in the area includes fishing, hiking, mountain biking, picnicking and wildlife viewing. The historic town of Downieville is also nearby and has many shops, restaurants and additional lodging.
Campers may also notice stacks of boulders around the campground and area. These are tailings created by a mining technique known as “turning the river”. During the summer months,Chinese mining companies would move the boulders from the riverbed and then stacked them on the river’s edge so they could get to the gold.
You may also like Ramshorn or Loganville campgrounds.
