Upper Sage Flat Campground has 21 single-family campsites situated along Big Pine Creek and about 10 miles from Big Pine in the Sierra Nevada mountain range.
Campsites can accommodate tents, trailers and RVs. Parking spur range in size from 15 to 30 feet, with most in the 25-30 foot range. The campground has drinking water and vault toilets. Each campsite also has a table, fire ring, grill and food storage locker. Firewood is also available for sale from the camp host. Cell service is not available in the area.
Above the campground in Big Pine Canyon, the creek flows into a series of impressive glacial lakes in the North Fork Basin. These turquoise lakes sit at the eastern base of the steep Sierra Nevada at around 10,000 feet elevation. The Palisade Crest rises more than 14,000 feet.
In addition to incredible hiking and backpacking, there’s also great fishing in the creek. You also can’t beat the stargazing and wildlife viewing.
