Vern Whitaker Horse Camp has 10 equestrian campsites and is located about 8 miles from Borrego Springs in Anza-Borrego Desert State Park. Campsites are for equestrian campers only. This nice equestrian campground is popular on weekends from late October through early April.
Campsites can accommodate tents, trailers and RVs. The campground has about 33 horse corrals, drinking water, flush toilets and warm-water (solar) showers. Each campsite also has a table, fire ring and grill. Trash services are provided. Cell service is fair in the area. You can also purchase firewood from the camp host (during season).
Anza-Borrego Desert State Park is California’s largest state park, and second largest in the United States, spanning 600,000 acres. The campground has access to miles of equestrian trails. Other activities include hiking, picnicking, stargazing and wildlife viewing.
Other campgrounds in Anza-Borrego Desert State Park include Borrego Plam Canyon, Tamarisk Grove, Bow Willow, Sheep Canyon, Blair Valley (primitive) and Fish Camp (primitive).
