Wrights Lake Comments & Reviews

2 Comments on “Wrights Lake”

  1. Had another terrific time at Wrights Lake! Very glad we snagged a rec.gov cancellation a few weeks ago.
I was surprised at how many EMPTY SITES were around us, during our non-weekend stay, and how few had “FF” (First-come,First-serve) as their recreation.gov site reservation status, when we arrived back home. Many sites had cards on the site-number-post that indicated what days the site would be occupied over the coming week, and nearly all of these empty sites indicated that they should have been occupied that night- but that night AND the next night, no one arrived.
    Q. Is this a consequence of the 4-nights-before cancellation policy?
I met a family that is part of a group-of-families-interested-in-Wrights-Lake that somehow are able to exchange reservations. This may not seem kosher, but they are keeping the sites filled with interested campers.

    • Hi Mark,
Thanks for the review and glad you had a great time up at Wrights Lake. I/we’ve been noticing the ’empty sites’ phenomena at other Sierra campgrounds too. And many had ‘reserved’ cards on them. Not quite sure what the reason is but you may be right about the cancellation policy. Maybe someone knows and can comment.
