East Portal Campground Curecanti National Recreation Area Colorado

East Portal Overview

East Portal Campground has 15 campsites and is located at the bottom of the canyon, along the Gunnison River. All campsites are first-come, first-serve.  The campground is also within Curecanti National Recreation Area, but is adjacent to and only accessible from Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park (entrance fee required).

The small, primitive campground is open year round to hikers or bikers. It is open to vehicles (under 22 feet) from mid April to early November.  No trailers or RVs are permitted. The campground road and parking areas are all gravel.  There are 5 campsites with parking spaces and 10 that are walk-in via steps from a common parking area. Amenities include potable drinking water, vault toilets and trash collection.  Each campsite also has a table, food storage locker, fire ring and grill. Cell service is not available in the area.
