Elk Creek Overview

Elk Creek Campground has 155 campsites and is located on the north shore of Blue Mesa Reservoir (Gunnison River) within Curecanti National Recreation Area. The campground is open year round with reservations accepted mid May to mid September.

Campsites can accommodate tents, trailers and RVs. Loop D has 28 sites with electric hookups (50-amp). Each site also has a paved parking spur (25 to 50 feet), table, fire ring and grill. Fourteen sites are walk-to (tent only). Amenities include drinking water, vault and flush toilets, trash collection and a dump station. The Elk Creek Marina is also near the campground has has a boat ramp, trailer lot and other facilities. Cell service is fair in the area.

Other campgrounds in the area include Ponderosa, Red Creek Group Site, Soap Creek, Lake Fork, East Elk Creek Group, Cimarron and Stevens Creek.

Outdoor recreation in the area includes boating, kayaking, paddle-boarding, water sports, swimming, fishing, hiking, mountain biking, stargazing and picnicking. Wildlife viewing can also be good in the area.
