Lower Hermosa Campground has 18 (first-come, first-serve) campsites and is located above Hermosa Creek in the San Juan National Forest. There is no creek access from the campground.
The primitive campground does not have water, but a vault toilet is located in the Hermosa Creek Trailhead parking lot. Trash collection is provided. Cell service is not available.
Campsites can accommodate tents, trailers and RVs (up to 30 feet). Each site also has a table, fire ring and grill. Campsites 9, 10, 11 and 17 have horse corrals. Generators are okay to use from 6am to 10pm.
Although horses are not allowed in the campground, the adjacent Lower Hermosa Creek Trailhead has an area with a horse corral for overnight horse camping, as well as hitching posts. The parking lot is large enough for vehicles and horse trailers.
Other campgrounds over by the Vallecito Reservoir include Graham Creek, North Canyon, Middle Mountain, Pine Point and Vallecito.
Outdoor recreation in the area includes fishing, hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, ATVing, picnicking and wildlife viewing.
