North Canyon Campground has 21 campsites and is located near Vallecito Reservoir in the San Juan National Forest. The campground is a little more open with large Ponderosa pines scattered throughout. Underbrush separates campsites and offers some nice privacy. There are also trails/paths leading from the campground to the water.
Campsites can accommodate tents, trailers and RVs (up to 45 feet). Each site also has a table, fire ring and grill. Amenities includes drinking water, vault toilets and trash collection. Firewood is also available to purchase from the camp host. The nearest boat ramp is on the west side of the lake. Generators are okay from 6am to 10pm. Some cell service is available in the area.
Other campgrounds over by the Vallecito Reservoir include Middle Mountain, Graham Creek, Pine Point and Vallecito. Lower Hermosa Campground (off highway 550 near Hermosa) also has 19 first-come, first-serve campsites.
Vallecito Reservoir offers great fishing, boating, canoeing and kayaking. Other activities in the area include hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, picnicking and wildlife viewing.
