O’Haver Lake Campground has 32 campsites and is wrapped around the shores of beautiful O’Haver Lake. There are 29 standard (non electric) sites and 3 tent-only sites. Each campsite also has a table, food storage locker, fire ring and grate. Campsites are fairly close together and set among a forest of ponderosa pine and aspen.
Campsites 1-5, 7, 13, 21, 23 and 24 are first-come, first-serve. All other sites are reservable.
Campground amenities include drinking water and vault toilets. Firewood is also available for sale from the camp host. There is also a day-use/picnic area/parking lot in the middle of the campground. Cell service is poor in the area.
O’Haver Lake – Area Recreation
Outdoor recreation in the area includes fishing, canoeing, kayaking, hiking, paddle boarding (SUP), mountain biking, horseback riding, OHVing and picnicking. Birding and wildlife viewing are also nice here. The historic Denver and Rio Grande railroad grade is a popular mountain biking route from Monarch Pass to Marshall Pass.

Hello I want to bring my mom up there she’s 84 and it was her favorite spot when her and her late husband Jerry Stepdad used to camp

Hi Randy, That is a great idea to bring your mom up to O’Haver Lake for the day. There is a day use area, but I believe there will be a fee to use. Have a great time!
Is swimming allowed at O’Haver lake?
Yes – you can swim in O’Haver Lake, but it’ll be chilly!
Do your first come first serve campsites usually fill up pretty fast on Friday nights? or would it be better to try early Saturday morning?

Yes, the first-come, first-serve campsites at O’Haver Lake campground will fill up by Friday afternoon. Best to try and get in line around 8am on Friday to try and get one. Best of luck!
If all campsites are full is there an area to fish for a day visit

Yes, there is a day-use/picnic parking area in the middle of O’Haver Lake campground. There is a $7 per vehicle day use fee.
Planning a trip September 23rd leaving the 25th. Do you have campsites for a 35ft motorhome and what website can I go to for reservations? Thank you for your help.

You can click on the ‘Make A Reservation’ button and be directed to the O’Haver Lake Campground reservation page on Recreation.gov. From there you can check availability, pricing and make a reservation. You can also click on each campsite to see what the size limitations are per site. Campsites 1-5, 7, 13, 21, 23 and 24 are first-come, first-serve. All other sites are reservable.
Thank you so much for responding so quickly. On the reservation site for the dates in Sept. for 23-24 it says all sites are FF. So is that correct for the entire park?
How quickly do the FF sites fill up on a Monday?
Hi Keri,
O’ Haver Lake campground will be busy/full most of the summer. Arriving Monday will improve your chances of getting a first-come, first-serve site. I think your chances are good you’ll get a site, but arrive mid-morning if you can.
The USFS website shows all the first come first serve spots are closed or reserved for 4-5 Sept already. Is this true…everything is filled up for this weekend already? Thank you.

That’s a great question. I checked as well and Rec.gov indicates no campsites available through Sep 5 so all must be taken. First-come first-serve campsies become available starting with a Sep 6 arrival.
Please help! I’m confused by the rec.gov site…we are arriving on Monday the 14th and hope to get a site. Yesterday the sites for the 14th were all marked FF, today they are all marked Unavailable. The text says 3 contradictory things: 1) all reservable sites have been released through October 14th, 2) all sites are FF after Sept 8, and 3) new sites will be released tmrw. Does anyone know whether this means there will or won’t be reservable or FF sites available on the 14th? Thanks for any clarifications!

I just checked on the Rec.gov availability calendar is showing all 32 campsites are available on a first-come, first-serve basis staring with a Sep 15 arrival. No availability through Sep 14. I would call them at 800 444-7275 to confirm.

Which spot is the most secluded? Would it be 32? I understand it’s crowded, but we have young children and I don’t want to disturb anyone with the noise.
