Park Creek Campground Colorado

Park Creek Overview

Park Creek Campsite 009

Park Creek Campground has 13 campsites and is a sweet little campground located high in the Rocky Mountains along the banks of the South Fork Rio Grande. Some nice Ponderosa pine trees are scattered throughout the campground and many of the campsites are right on the river.

The campground is first-come, first-serve and can accommodate tents, trailers and RVs. Each site also has a table, fire ring and grate. Although located just off highway 160, you’ll feel like your miles from civilization – except for the vault toilets. Other amenities include drinking water and trash collection.

Park Creek – Area Recreation

Fishing is great here, as is hiking, backpacking, horseback riding, winter sports and wildlife viewing.  Other activities include mountain biking, backpacking, picnicking and wildlife viewing.

You may also like Highway Springs, Cross Creek or Beaver Creek campgrounds.

  1. Phillip Herbst says:

We camped in Site 11 which had a great view of the creek. There was good spacing between camp sites which helped with privacy and noise. We had a problem with our battery power which caused us to run our generator through the night. However it’s a closed frame inverter style unit so it’s Much more quiet than the average generators. The next day I asked our neighbor at site 12 if our generator had disturbed him. He replied that he didn’t even Know it was running. I walked to the next closest sites and couldn’t hear it running. My point being that the sites are fairly well spaced. Now some of the lower numbered sites seemed to be closer but those sites like 7 or 8 and above have good spacing.

Of note is the water faucet. It is located several feet off the roadway so it will require at least a 25 ft hose to reach it. Additionally the spigot is not threaded so some type of slip on hose adapter will be needed if you want to connect your fresh water tank.

The park was clean and surprisingly was not 100% occupied. We got there mid morning in mid week and had our choice of about 4 or 5 campsites. We were pleasantly surprised that site 11 was available as it is one of the few that are water front sites.

The sites are equipped with bear boxes for food storage. However, we had no bear sightings. I would still recommend a canister of bear spray for each camper to carry

We stayed 4 nights and thoroughly enjoyed the stay. If in the area I recommend this campground.
