Area Recreation & Activities
The Maroon Bells Scenic Area is surrounded by the Maroon Bells-Snowmass Wilderness. Towering over glacial valleys at over 14,000 feet in elevation, the Maroon Bells are the most recognizable peaks in the Elk Mountains.
Visitors can enjoy backpacking, hiking, mountain biking, picnicking, horseback riding and fishing. Wildlife viewing is also great with opportunities to see bighorn sheep, deer, bear and other forest creatures. The town of Aspen is a short drive if you need supplies or like to do a little shopping.
Silver Bell or Silver Queen campgrounds are also in the area.
