Spruce Grove Campground has 16 campsites set among spruce trees at an elevation of 9,900 feet in the Grand Mesa Uncompahgre and Gunnison National Forests. All campsites are first-come, first-serve.
The campground is generally open mid June to late September. Campground amenities include vault toilets and trash collection. Firewood is also available to purchase from the camp host. Cell service is not available. Campsites can accommodate tents, trailers and RVs (up to 48 feet). Each site also has a table, fire ring and grill.
Other campgrounds in the area include Ward Lake, Island Lake, Little Bear, Jumbo, Cobbett Lake and Crag Crest.
Ward Lake and nearby Arch Slough are open to non-motorized watercraft and each are great for canoeing, kayaking and fishing. Mesa and Beaver Lakes are also nearby. Other outdoor recreation in the area includes hiking, mountain biking, OHV trail riding, horseback riding, climbing, picnicking, hunting and wildlife viewing. Other lakes within a few miles include Island Lake and Ward Lake.
The Grand Mesa National Scenic and Historic Byway offers 63 miles of scenic driving as it climbs from the rugged canyon floor, up to the forested mesa tops at 11,000 feet. The road also passes sparkling lakes and meadows bursting with wildflowers. Many trailheads can be found along the byway. Grand Mesa Visitor Center is a short drive from the campground.
