Vallecito Campground has 80 campsites (36 reservable) and is located along Vallecito Creek in the San Juan National Forest. It’s also about 4 miles away from the Vallecito Reservoir.
The campground has 4 loops (B, C, D and W) with most campsites bring fairly large and level. Those near the creek are particularly in high demand. Electric hookup sites include B27-B30, W5-W11 and W13-W17 Amenities includes drinking water, vault toilets and trash collection. Firewood is also available to purchase from the camp host. Generators are okay to use from 6am to 10pm.
Campsites can accommodate tents, trailers and RVs (28 to 50 feet). Each site also has a table, fire ring and grill. Three of the sites have electric hookups.
Other campgrounds near the Vallecito Reservoir include Middle Mountain, Graham Creek, Pine Point and North Canyon.
Seven fee picnic sites are along the creek. Parking for the Vallecito Creek Trail, a major access point for the Weminuche Wilderness (no mountain bikes or motorized vehicles allowed), is at the campground entrance. Hitching posts and an unloading dock are available for livestock at the trailhead, but overnight horse camping is not allowed.
Nearby Vallecito Reservoir also offers great fishing, boating, canoeing and kayaking. Other activities in the area include hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, picnicking and wildlife viewing.
