4 Comments on “Alafia River State Park”

  1. Miles of excellent mountain bike trails in/around old phosphorus pits. Trails rated from easy to extremely difficult. Trails are maintained by the SWAMP MBC.
Warning: Heed the trail ratings. Even the intermediate trails had some technical sections. PROS: Florida mountain biking at its best. Miles of excellent bike trails. CONS: Most campsites had very little shade. About 15 miles to nearest crossroads town. (had campsite 15 – no shade)

  2. Mary H Burney says:

This message is for Ronald Stevens, volunteer coordinator for Alafia State Park: My friends Pat and Lonnie Lunsford volunteer each year in Florida State parks. They suggest call you about being a resident volunteer at Alafia the winter of 2019. I have submitted an application through the Florida State Parks site. I have never been a volunteer previously. I am hoping there is some useful service in the park for which I can volunteer and be able to spend the winter in Florida. I am a veteran, a widow, am 80 years old, worked 30 years at a legal services, still occasionally work. I can answer phones and use most office equipment. I am proficient in word processing. I am willing to volunteer in an office, a store, or some other capacity. I am sorry to say I cannot do cleaning. I have a 25 foot camping trailer and would need water, electricity and sewer hookups. Please let me know if you have need of my services. I could volunteer January, February and March. Thanks for any consideration.

    • Hi Mary,
CampsitePhotos is not associated with the campgrounds listed on our site. We provide the photos of each campsite, campground info and link to reservations. I recommend you call Alafia River State Park directly and see if you can get in touch with Ronald. The Alafia River State Park campground phone number is: 813 672-5320.

  3. Stayed two nights here at site 22 which we thoroughly enjoyed. Plenty of space as the campsites are spread out. The positioning of site 22 gives a fairly private space. Staff was also wonderful.

    Pros:
    Quiet
    Private
    Space

    Cons:
Not a big issue but lots of roots from trees so watch your step.
