Kissimmee Prairie Preserve State Park Overview

Kissimmee Prairie Preserve State Park includes part of the Everglades headwaters and also protects the largest tract of Florida dry prairie. Camping opportunities include 90 developed sites for RVs, 3 primitive wilderness (tent only) campsites (hike or bike to), and 13 equestrian/horse sites. There are also 5 ‘safari’ glamping tents available to reserve through Timberline Glamping.

Kilpatrick Hammock Campground is surrounded by 54,000 acres of prairie and all of the developed campsites have water & electric hookups. Campsites can accommodate tents, trailers and RVs (up to 65 feet). Each site also has a table, fire ring and grill.

The campground is open year round and amenities include drinking water, restrooms with flush toilets and showers, laundry facilities, trash collection and a dump station (with water fill).

Kilpatrick Hammock Campground offers equestrian camping with 50-amp electrical service and water at each of the 10 available sites. One paddock is provided for each campsite. Water is provided in the southwestern-most paddocks, and a central community water source is located near the kiosk at the entry to this camp loop.

The 3 wilderness primitive campsites is reached by biking or hiking 2.5 miles from the office. Each site also has a table and fire ring. The three sites are available to individuals or groups, with a maximum of four people per site.

Kissimmee Prairie Preserve State Park – Area Recreation & Activities

Visitors can see a variety of wildlife including many rare, endangered species. Bird-watching is particularly popular with the opportunity to catch sight of a grasshopper sparrow, crested caracara or burrowing owl. It also has minimal light pollution (Dark Sky Designation) allowing for excellent stargazing. Other activities include horseback riding, biking, hiking and picnicking.  Guided prairie buggy tours area also available.
