W.P. Franklin South Recreation Area Campground Lake Okeechobee Florida

W.P. Franklin South Recreation Area Overview

W.P. Franklin South Recreation Area is located on the mighty Caloosahatchee River and next to the W.P. Franklin Lock and Dam.  There isn’t a campground here, but it does have a nice day use area including 2 reservable group picnic pavilions.

Each shelter can accommodate up to 50 people and has water and electricity, 6+ picnic tables and a large BBQ grill.  Other amenities include horseshoe courts, playground, volleyball, lawn areas and a boat ramp. Flush toilets and drinking water are also available.

W.P. Franklin South Recreation Area – Information

In addition to watching boats pass by on the Okeechobee Waterway, there are also a variety of outdoor recreation activities. Visitors can enjoy boating, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, picnicking, biking and wildlife viewing.

  1. W.P. Franklin South Recreation Area which is on the south bank of the Caloosahatchee River does not have a campground. The campground is located on the north bank of the river and must be reached by Hwy 78.
