Maquoketa Caves State Park campground has 30 spacious and private campsites nestled among mature pine trees. Campsites sites 6-12 have electric hookups and campsites 25-30 are the hike-in sites. Each campsite also has a table, fire ring and grate. Twenty-five percent of the campsites are first-come, first-serve.
Campground amenities include drinking water, flush toilets, hot showers and an RV dump station. Firewood is also available for sale from the camp host.
Maquoketa Caves State Park is a very popular attraction in Jackson County and especially for spelunkers. The park has more caves (13) than any other state park in Iowa and includes 370 acres set among hardwood trees and high bluffs. Hikers will love it here too with six miles to explore. Some of the highlights include thee “Natural Bridge”, “Balanced Rock”, and “Dancehall Cave”. Caves feature limestone formations, stalactites and stalagmites. Guided cave tours are available and there’s an interpretive center where you can learn more about the geology, park history and early inhabitants.
