Kanopolis State Park is located next to Kanopolis Lake and right on the Prairire Trail Scenic Byway northwest of Marquette. The park is open year round and has a number of campgrounds located near the shoreline. There are 200+ campsites (14 full hookups, 57 with water & electric, 53 with electric, and the rest primitive/no hookups). There are also 6 cabins and 5 picnic shelters available to rent.
Amenities include drinking water, flush and vault toilets, showers, trash collection and dump stations. There’s also a few boat ramps, a marina, boat rentals, fishing cleaning stations, playgrounds/ball fields, amphitheater, picnic area and swim beaches.
Equestrian camping is also available at Rockin’ K Campground. It has 14 sites with water & electric hookups, 13 sites with electric hookups and 10 primitive sites. There are also 2 corrals (divided into 4 pens and) along with 10 smaller pens. Amenities include drinking water, vault toilets, manure bunkers, recycle/trash collection and 3 horse washing bays.
Kanopolis offers more than 30 miles of trails open to hikers, mountain bikers, and horseback riders, 15 of which are on the Smoky Hill Wildlife Area. The 3,500-acre lake and 12,500-acre wildlife area also offer great boating, fishing, water sports and hunting opportunities.
Wildlife viewing and photography opportunities are also plentiful. In the winter, bald eagles and ospreys fish the river. Songbirds and wildflowers brighten the landscape throughout the area.
