Visited 8/26/20 found no staff present and camp completely empty. sites have water extremely distant from elec hookup ==never seen that before in Ga.,Ala., Tn. La. Tx. Lots of sloping sites w/ no shade and few w/ partial shade ==Really glad I only did a scout visit and didn’t bring my camper and boat=will not be visiting your park =it badly needs update on asphalt on roads and campsites. Badly disappointed that I traveled 250 miles to see such a poorly maintained and planned park! Suggest sites be bull dozed to level and re pave and water outlet moved closer to elec. boxes!.
I was hiking over the week end and I came across an old bus in the woods close to the lake what’s the history of it would appreciate any infoe
HI Cecil,
Sounds like you’ve stumbled on a mystery! We don’t have any information about the bus. Perhaps someone may have some info and can comment here.
I’m considering camping at Barren R. campground for several days between 5/5 and the 11th but Dan Bragg’s critical review (Aug 27, 2020) addressed two major concern of mines, the slope on sites, & lack of partial shade. I was also concerened re the scarcity of restrooms & informative photos to reveal the meaningful differences between sites. This is in contrast to other campgrounds including most in other states where more written & photographic info is typically provided. I looked for a place to select more details re each site but couldn’t find any. That may have been my fault. I don’t know.
