The campground is next to the Big Bone Lick Museum which features the fossilized remains of giant mastodons, wooly mammoths, ground sloths and other amazing creatures. In fact, the Big Bone Lick State Historic Site has been recognized as the “Birthplace of American Vertebrate Paleontology.”
The campground also has a picnic area, playground, flush toilets, showers, dump station and laundry. There’s also a basic camp store that sells firewood, ice and supplies.
In addition to checking out the museum and other historic sites, there’s hiking, biking, picnicking, swimming, tennis, volleyball, basketball, mini-golf course, softball and horseshoes. And there’s also a small lake for fishing and a swimming pool for swimming!
If you’re heading south, you may want to check out Taylorsville Lake State Park down by Louisville.
