Assateague State Park is located on Assateague Island and next to a beautiful sandy beach along the Atlantic Coast. This is Maryland’s only oceanfront park and is worth the visit. The campground has 342 campsites. Electric hookups are available in the G-Loop (173-208) and a few more in the I-Loop. Youth group campsites are also available. Campsites are reservable late April through October. Check in is 1pm and check out is 11am.
Campground amenities include drinking water, flush toilets, showers, trash recycling/collection and a dump station. There’s also a ranger station, gift shop & grill, boat ramp and fishing pier. Campsites can accommodate tents, trailers and RVs. Each site also has a table, fire ring and grill. Up to 2 vehicles and 6 people are allowed per campsite. Generators are permitted from 7am to 10pm.
When you’re not having fun watching the wild horses of Assateague, you can also enjoy beach combing, swimming, surfing, kayaking, fishing, hiking, biking, picnicking and wildlife viewing. The nearby town of Berlin is also worth the visit and has many shops and restaurants.
You might also like the campgrounds at Assateague Island National Seashore. Martinak State Park is also nice.
