Lily Bay State Park Campground Maine

Lily Bay State Park Overview

Lily Bay State Park Beach

Lily Bay State Park on Moosehead Lake has 90 campsites with some offering waterfront camping at the gateway to Maine’s North Woods. The campsites are located in two distinct areas bordering Moosehead Lake – Rowell Cove and Dunn Point. The campsite sizes vary, but some (about 9) are quite large – accommodating trailers/RVs over 35 feet. There are 22 walk-in tent campsites. Campsites have a table, fire ring and grate.

The campground is open mid May to mid October and closes during the offseason. All sites become first-come, first-serve in September. Amenities include drinking water, flush toilets, hot showers ($) and a camp store. You’ll also find a marina, boat ramp, playground, picnic area and hiking trails at the park. Firewood is also available for sale.

Lily Bay State Park – Area Recreation

The Park features New England’s largest lake, spanning 117 square miles. Outdoor recreation includes boating, fishing, water sports, swimming, hiking, biking and picnicking. Wildlife viewing is also great with opportunities to see moose, bear, deer and other wild forest creatures.

Rangeley Lake State Park is another nice facility you may want to check out. It’s about 122 miles south west of Lily Bay State Park and has 50 campsites.

  1. Melony Maynard says:

    Good afternoon,

Can you tell me if your campground can be accessed by a four wheeler trail? We are planning a trip up there from Abbott but our ATV map does not show us a trail that goes right to Lily Bay or your campgraound. The map shows we can get close but we wanted to make sure we can get to the campground on the wheeler if we decide to come there.

Thank you for any information you can give me.

    Melony Maynard

    • Hi Melony,
Sounds like you have a fun trip planned! CampsitePhotos.com is not associated with the campgrounds listed on our website. We provide the photos of each campsite and some more info on the campground, etc. I recommend you call Lily Bay State Park directly at:207 695-2700

  2. ISABELLE ROUSSEAU says:

    Hi
we have reserved for 2 days a camp site (n°15) the 29 and 30th of july. Is there a risk to be approached by bears in lily bay state park. Should we take precautions with our tent ? thanks
    Isa

    • Hi Isabelle,
Lily Bay State Park campground has some nice wildlife viewing with opportunities to see moose, bear, deer and other wild forest creatures. Bears do frequent the campground and it is a good idea to keep all food (and anything that smells) out of your tent and hidden in your vehicle. It’s also a good idea to store all food and food containers (ice chests) in your vehicle if you’re away from your campsite.

  3. Robert Conlin says:

Hi There – I’m planning on a 5-6 night visit with my 6 kids in the week after Labor Day – maybe 9/4-9/10. I have two tents. Could you recommend a waterfront site, or two adjoining if exceed park regs occupancy. Thank you.We can’t wait to visit!

    • Hi Robert,

If you click on the ‘Campground Map’ button you’ll see where the sites are located at Lily Bay State Park. There are several good waterfront sites, and any two (side by side) would be nice.

      Our favorite (waterfront) Lily Bay State Park campsites are: 17, 25, 33, 36, 37, 40, 41, 44, 200, 208, 210, 211, 214, 221 and 222. Sites 206 and 207 are not waterfront, but are nice side-by-side sites.

      Have a great trip!

  4. gienn w curtis says:

We have a 39 foot motorhome. We were hopng to book for june. I see that there are only 9 sites that size, so l lmagine they are high in demand. Any chance?

    • Hi Glenn,
Yes – you’re correct in that there are nine campsites at Lily Bay State Park that will accommodate your 39 foot motorhome. June will get busy for most campsites so I’d advise you try and book as soon as the reservation window opens for the dates you want to camp. Best of luck!

  5. Tammy L Baker says:

HI, Just wondering if you have any RV sites w/hookups?
    Thank you! And Happy 2021

    • Hi Tammy,
Reservations are not yet open for Maine State Parks, including Lily Bay State Park. The reservations will open on February 5 at 9AM EST. I recommend you click on the ‘Make A Reservation’ link on February 5 at 9AM EST to try and reserve a site. Here is also a link to the Maine Reservation website: https://www.campwithme.com

    • Crystal Norris says:

Can you tell me what sites offer the best sunsets right from the actual campsite? And/or sunrise?
      Thanks!!!

      • Hi Crystal,

A great question and I’m sure the sunsets are pretty nice at Lily Bay. I’m going to have to defer to our fans or anyone else out there that may know the answer or have a recommendation.

      • Ron Morin says:

If you’re hoping to see a sunrise or sunset over the water, you’re out of luck. The surrounding terrain is too hilly.

  6. Hello,
I was wondering if the park is open this weekend for camping/tent as a walk in?
    Thank you!
    Denise

    • HI Denise,

Beginning September 13, all campsites at Maine State Parks (including Lily Bay) are first-come, first-serve. However, Lily Bay State Park may be closed for the season. I recommend you call the park to double check: 207 695-2700.

  7. Spencer scully says:

Hoping to come up fall of 2022 and wondering how it would be to back a 35’ fifth wheel into 211x thanks

    • Hi Spencer,
Campsite #211x is a really nice campsite with a large parking spur. As we don’t have anyone local to check, I’m can’t comment on the ease of backing into the site, but it looks to be fairly straightforward from the picture. Perhaps someone can comment on it, or you can try calling the park at 207 695-2700.
