12 Mile Beach Overview

12 Mile Beach campground has 36 campsites and is located on a dune overlooking a beautiful sandy beach and Lake Superior in the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore area. There are several sites that offer direct beach access (1, 3, 4, 5, 7, 9, 12, 13, 15, 16, 24, 25 and 26).

Most campsites are large and suitable for tents, trailers and RVs (up to 42 feet). Each site also has a table, lantern post, fire ring and grate. Campground amenities include drinking water and vault toilets. Food storage lockers are also available. Generator use is limited in some of the camp sites at the far west of the campground, mostly away from the beach sites.

Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore has over 100 miles of hiking trails. Other activities include biking, sunbathing, swimming, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, picnicking and wildlife viewing. The Lakeshore hugs the Lake Superior shoreline for more than 40 miles. Lake Superior is the largest, deepest, coldest, and most pristine of all the Great Lakes.

You may also like Hurricane River or Little Beaver Lake campground. Bay Furnace Campground is also nice.
