Lake Vermilion-Soudan Underground Mine State Park Overview

Lake Vermilion – Soudan Underground Mine State Park features an historic iron mine and has 32 sites with 30/50 amp electric hookups, 8 camper cabins, 2 canoe/kayak sites and 3 group campsites are also available.

The 32 hookup campsites are in Vermilion Ridge Campground and can accommodate tents, trailers and RVs. Each site also has a table, fire ring and grate. Amenities include drinking water, flush toilets and showers. Vault toilets are also available throughout the park. Firewood is available for purchase from the camp host.

The canoe sites are first-come, first-serve and all the other sites/cabins are reservable. The group campsites include Ojjig (50 person max), Maang (30 person max) and Mooz (30 person max). Each group site also has screened picnic shelters, tables, fire rings and WiFi.

Each of the 8 camper cabins has heat, electricity, WiFi, outdoor food prep counter, campfire ring and table. They can sleep 6 peopler per cabin (no linens provided). Flush toilets and showers are also nearby.

Other amenities include a park office, gift shop, visitor center, picnic areas, boat access, historic sites and mine tours (Spring to early Fall).

Area Recreation & Activities

The park’s main attraction is the historic underground iron mine. Visitors can take tour and travel 1/2 mile deep into the earth. Mine tours are from Spring to early Fall).  Other activities include fishing, boating, kayaking, canoeing, hiking, biking, picnicking and wildlife viewing.
