Akers Campground has 4 (group) tent-only campsites and is located right next to Akers Ferry on the Current River. It is also just north of the junction of Highways KK and K. The campground is open year-round, but has limited facilities from October through March.
The group campsites are for tent-only camping and can accommodate up to 45 people and 14 vehicle per site. Each site has a parking area, picnic tables and fire rings with grills. Campground amenities include potable drinking water, vault toilets and trash collection. There’s also a (seasonal) camp store nearby that sells firewood, ice, snacks and various supplies. Canoe/kayak rentals are also available. Cell service is poor in the area.
Other campgrounds in the Ozark National Scenic Riverways include: Alley Spring, Big Spring, Pulltite, Round Spring and Two Rivers. You might also Timbuktu Campground in Echo Bluff State Park.
Outdoor recreation in the area includes boating, kayaking, canoeing, fishing, swimming, tubing, hiking, biking, picnicking and wildlife viewing.
Known for its caves, springs, sinkholes and losing streams, the Ozark National Scenic Riverways have over 300 identified caves within its boundaries. The caves range in size from a rock overhang to almost seven miles of identified passages. Eight caves, including an open sinkhole, have been designated as outstanding natural features.
