Alta Campground has 15 campsites (including a host site) and is located in a forested area next to the West Fork Bitterroot River.

Campsites can accommodate tents, trailers and RVs. Each site has a parking spur (40 to 70 feet), table, fire ring and grill.  Campground amenities include drinking water, vault toilets and trash collection. Firewood is also available to purchase from the camp host.

Alta Campground – Area Recreation

Outdoor recreation in the area includes kayaking, canoeing, paddle-boarding, swimming, fishing, hiking, mountain biking and picnicking.  Wildlife viewing is also great with opportunities to see elk, mule deer, big horn sheep, white-tailed deer, black bear, moose, Bald Eagles, Blue Heron and other forest creatures.

Attractions in the area include Horse Creek Hot Springs (about 18 miles on gravel road), historic ranger station (about 4 miles on paved road), and several scenic mountain peaks accessible by foot trail.

Other campgrounds in the area include Slate Creek and Painted Rocks State Park.
