Cape Point Campground has 202 campsites and is one of four campgrounds located at Cape Hatteras National Seashore. The other 3 campgrounds are Frisco, Oregon Inlet and Ocracoke.
Cape Point Campground is generally open early April through late November. It is nestled between rolling dunes to the south and a maritime forest to the north. A short walk through the dunes leads you to the beach at the infamous Cape Hatteras.
Rows D, E, and F are reserved for tent camping only. Hookups are not available, but each site has a table and BBQ pedestal. Campground amenities include drinking water, flush toilets, showers and trash collection. Cell service is good in the area.
Outdoor recreation in the area includes swimming, kayaking, paddle boarding, windsurfing, fishing, beach combing, sunbathing, hiking, biking, OHV riding and picnicking. Wildlife viewing is also nice in the area.
Cape Hatteras National Seashore protects parts of three barrier islands: Bodie Island, Hatteras Island, and Ocracoke Island. Beach and sound access ramps, campgrounds, nature trails, and lighthouses are available on all three islands.
