Davidson River campground has 134 campsites (29 with electric hookups) and is located along the Davidson River in Pisgah National Forest. Group camping is also available.
Campsites can accommodate tents, trailers and RVs. Each site also has a table, lantern post, fire ring and grate. Pets/dogs are allowed in campground (on leash), but pet fences are no longer permitted at the campground/campsites.
The following campsites have electric hookups: 1-10, 32, 58, 61, 62, 65, 71, 76, 78, 96, 100, 119, 121, and 124-130. Campsites 133-161 are first-come, first-serve sites.
The campground has easy access to hiking trails, fishing spots, waterfalls and several nearby attractions. Amenities include drinking water, flush toilets, hot showers and trash collection. Firewood and ice are available for sale from the camp host. You can also rent bikes nearby. Cell service is poor in the area.
Davidson River Area Recreation
Outdoor activities include tubing, kayaking, canoeing, fishing, swimming, biking, picnicking and wildlife viewing. There are is also popular for its hiking trails including the Art Loeb Trail and North Slope Trail. There are also many natural and cultural attractions in the area including Sliding Rock, Looking Glass Falls and the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Mount Pisgah Campground is about 18 miles to the north.

We have camped at Davidson River Campground for many years, and we always loved it, but our last trip was a nightmare in River Bend Loop. Two large groups of rowdy people made sleep all but impossible on two different nights.. It was stressful and unpleasant. One night my brother-in-law actually tried to get some sleep in his car to escape the loud noises . I guess the host had a different idea about what “quiet time” at 10 p.m. means than I have.
We did not know of this site and booked site 105 for our pop up. Meanwhile 105 is a walk up site. Minus camping in a parking spot we had a fabulous stay!!

Glad you had a good time at Davison River campground. In regards to campsite #105 – our photo shows the correct site (a pull through campsites with a 59 foot driveway). Recreation.gov also lists it as a pull through campsite good for two vehicles.
Site #105 is Awesome…and extremely private! What you show in the photo IS the driveway…then it’s a short walk UP to a level tent pad, where you can pitch a tent, put up your awning, sit at the picnic table, and have some privacy. (It is a public campground mind you…) #105 is NOT a “Walk Up Site”… it’s a “Reserve” Campsite. “Walk Up Sites” start at 133 to 161..
water is very chlorinated tasting very hard to reserve electric sites loved site 132 it was huge and right next to bathrooms had electric But unfortunatly for us they were demolishing a bathroom We had to listen to jack hammering all week
Campground was very large and flat great for biking and walking. Nice sites in each loop and loops nicely spaced so it never felt crowded. beach access is tiny but it’s a river so most people get in and float down the river, only a handful stay to take a dip in the water. Loved my stay here and highly recommend it. There is a really nice coffee truck at 276 that serves the best lattes with local milk!
Camped at Davidson River – site #127 – 5/9-5/13/21. When we arrived we were informed pet fences are not allowed. But, on the website, there is no mention of this rule. We were told people had been leaving dogs unattended in fenced area at campsite & that was why this rule was now in place. When asked if we were always with our dog inside the fence, could we use it? We were told “no”. It is ashame that a few irresponsible people have made it so much less enjoyable for the rest of us campers & pets!
I would suggest though, that this campground update their website to reflect this change!

That’s too bad that Davidson River campground no longer allows pet fences. We made a note of it and included in on our website’s overview. Hopefully Davidson River will do the same.
THIS IS WHY WE HAVE RULES. PEOPLE THAT OBEY RULES SHOULD NOT BE PUNISH BECAUSE SOMEONE DOES NOT FOLLOW THE RULES. THE PEOPLE IN CHARGE SHOULD JUST GO AFTER THE RULE BREAKER NOT THE RULE FOLLOWERS.
