Lake Norman State Park Campground has 44 campsites in a heavily forested area near the tip of the peninsula between Lake Norman and Hicks Creek. The campsites are about 1/4 mile from the water. There are also 6 cabins and group campsites available.
Campsites 1 to 32 have a paved parking spur, table, fire ring, grill and a tent pad measuring 12×15 feet. These sites do not have hookups. Campsites 34 to 44 have full hookups (30 and 50 amp) a paved parking spur, table, lantern post, fire ring and grill. Campsites 31 (no hookups) and 39 (hookups) are ADA.
Campground amenities include drinking water, flush toilets, hot-water showers, trash collection and a dump station. The park also has a picnic area, group picnic pavilions, swim beach, visitor center, boat ramp, boat trailer lot, boat rentals, concession stand, firewood and miles of hiking/biking trails.
Outdoor recreation in the area includes boating, kayaking, canoeing, paddle-boarding, fishing, water sports, swimming, hiking, biking, picnicking and wildlife viewing. The popular 31 mile Itusi (single-track) mountain biking trail can also be accessed from the campground.
