Lake Waccamaw State Park Campground has 4 primitive group campsites (up to 25 people) and is on the shores of the largest Carolina Bay, about 40 miles west of Wilmington. One yurt campsite is also available. All sites are walk-to and are for tent camping only. Vault toilets and trash collection are provided. Campers are required to check in at the visitor center and can purchase firewood or fill up on water.
Other park amenities include flush toilets, a picnic / day use area, boat ramp (non motorized) and visitor center.
You might also like Jones Lake State Park or Lumber River State Park. Cape Lookout State Park, Cape Lookout National Seashore and Carolina Beach State Park are also over on the coast.
Outdoor recreation at the park includes kayaking, canoeing, paddle-boarding, fishing, hiking, biking, picnicking and wildlife viewing.
A pedestrian bridge over Waccamaw Dam allows visitors to ride their bike or hike the lake’s entire 14-mile shoreline.
