Ocracoke Campground has 202 campsites and is located on the ocean side, separated from the beach by barrier dunes in Cape Hatteras National Seashore. It is only accessible by ferry or aircraft.
Ocracoke Campground is open year round and is just steps from the beach and beautiful North Carolina coast. Campsites can accommodate tents, trailers and RVs. Each site also has a table and BBQ pedestal. Campsites are located on sandy soil, so campers are encouraged to bring extra long tent stakes. Hookups are not available.
Campground amenities include drinking water, flush toilets, showers and trash collection. Cell service is good in the area.
The other 3 campgrounds at Cape Hatteras are Frisco, Oregon Inlet and Cape Point.
Outdoor recreation in the area includes swimming, kayaking, paddle boarding, windsurfing, fishing, beach combing, sunbathing, hiking, biking and picnicking. Wildlife viewing is also nice in the area.
Cape Hatteras National Seashore protects parts of three barrier islands: Bodie Island, Hatteras Island, and Ocracoke Island. Beach and sound access ramps, campgrounds, nature trails, and lighthouses are available on all three islands.
