Mormon Island State Recreation Area campground has 71 single-family campsites (53 with electric hookups) and is very close to the lakes. There are also 18 tent only campsites. Each site also has a table, fire ring and grate.
Camping amenities include drinking water, flush toilets, hot showers ($), laundry facilities and a dump station. The park also has a boat ramp, ranger station, camp host, playground and picnic area.
Mormon emigrants used this area as a winter stopover on their journey west. The area is also a temporary home to the world’s largest gathering of sandhill cranes. The cranes stop over each spring to rest, make baby cranes and conduct other business. Humans also can enjoy a variety of outdoor recreation including boating, fishing, swimming, water sports, kayaking, canoeing, hiking, biking and picnicking.
