Conchas Lake State Park has one of the largest lakes in all of New Mexico and 105 pretty sweet developed campsites along the shoreline. Forty one (41) of the campsites have electric hookups. Each campsite also has a table, fire ring and grate. If you’re into primitive camping, you can also choose from over 500 scattered around the lake (drive to or boat to).
The campground actually consists of two camping areas. Both have potable water, vault toilets, hot showers (coin operated) and an amazing sanitation dump station. There is also a playground for the kids and a full-service marina on the lake for the adults.
Conchas Lake stretches 11 miles southwest along the Conchas River, and about 14 miles along the South Canadian River in eastern New Mexico. The area offers varied shoreline, secluded coves, canyons, and sandy beaches. According to the Park brochure, there are “ancient rock formations date back to the Age of Dinosaurs.”
Outdoor recreation includes camping, fishing, boating, canoeing, kayaking, water skiing, wind surfing, sailing, picnicking, hiking and biking. Wildlife viewing is also nice in the area.
If you want to try another State Park campground in the area, then head south/west about 56 miles via 129 south and Highway 40 west to Santa Rosa Lake State Park. The campground has 75 campsites for tents, trailers and RVs.
