Jemez Falls campground has 52 single-family (mixed-used) campsites in a beautiful forest meadow of Ponderosa pines. The East Fork of the Jemez River is also located close to the campground and offers some nice fishing and whitewater kayaking.
The campground is paved and the campsites can accommodate tents, trailers and RVs (up to 40 feet). Group camping is also available. Campground amenities include drinking water and vault toilets. Firewood is also available for sale from the campground host. Cell service is poor in the area.
Each campsite also has a table, fire ring and grill. Our favorite Jemez Falls campsite photos are: 2, 3, 5, 20, 23, 27, 30, 32, 34 and 44.
Jemez Falls – Area Recreation
Jemez Falls, largest waterfall in the Jemez Mountains, is close by. The Valles Caldera National Preserve and Bandelier National Monument are within a short driving distance. Outdoor recreation includes fishing, hiking, mountain biking, picnicking, kayaking, climbing, horseback riding, OHV and swimming. Wildlife viewing is also nice in the area.
Fenton Lake State Park and San Antonio are two other campgrounds in the area.

Why does this site link to reserve america where you cannot make reservations for this campground

Thanks for pointing that out. We corrected the reservation link for Jemez Falls campground. It will now route you to Recreation.gov where you can check availability and make a reservation.
We are looking at loop 4. How far walking distance would it be to walk to the falls? Also where is the community source of water? I see on the map restrooms but not water.

There is drinking water at Jemez Falls State Park and the spigots are located throughout the campground, but we are not sure of the specific sites. You may want to call the park/campground directly at: 505 438-5300
We have a few families want to have a day trip to Jemes falls,where can we park and picnic? We are not planning to camp.

The Jemez Falls Trailhead is located adjacent to the Jemez Falls Group Area. To get to the trailhead use the Jemez Falls Camground turnoff and follow the road past the campground and day use area. The day-use parking area is located there too.
A short 1/4 mile hike will get you to the Jemez Falls Overlook, the highest falls in the Jemez Mountains, or you can always go further.

Generally our photographer will pick out ‘favorite sites’ based on the location related to a view and/or if it’s waterfront, etc. Also consideration is given to the size of the site, if it’s level, has privacy. Generally we don’t pick favorite sites next to the bathroom, host or walking trails because of foot traffic/noise. Lastly, remember these ‘favorite sites’ are in comparison to the other sites in the campground. Hope this helps!
Which sites are for RV 34ft or greater?

We’re actually going to be working on adding site dimensions and other info for each campsite/photo, but that won’t happen until later this year.
In the meantime, you can click on the link below for Jemez Falls campground (on Rec.gov), then click on the Site List. From there you can click on the individual campsites to check out dimensions, etc.

Hello I had a great time camping at site 30. Close to bathroom, there was a lot of noise coming from fellow car campers but it was a beautiful setting none the less.
I lost a silver chain necklace over my camping trip and am wondering who I can contact about a lost and found.

We spent several nights at Jemez Falls Campground. Our hosts Grace, Jeff, Bonnie and Nathan
were very professional, helpful and friendly. While off fishing, our canopy blew over when the wind came unexpectedly. Jeff kindly turned it over and secured it with tent stakes, which he gave us for our next camping adventure. Thanks Jeff. We will be back.
I’m really looking forward to doing some camping soon at the Jemez Falls Campground. Do you know if there is firewood available to purchase somewhere nearby?

We camped July 2021. The grounds were lovely and clean. Based on reviews, we picked camp site #34 but were not impressed. It is not a very private site and it slopes a bit downward. We tried multiple configurations but there was just not a level spot for our tent. The ground has run off down the hill. The site can work for you though if you bring a good shovel to level off the ground. Heads up – it rained every day, most days for just a couple of hours, another day it was a downpour for 6 hours. We were comfortable in our tent, so not a problem. The bathrooms were clean and fully stocked. I brought my own wipes and toilet paper each time but never needed my own toilet paper. I was concerned the toilets would smell but they did not. I actually prefer them now to toilets that flush. When we last camped at Yosemite, the flushing mechanism of the toilets was so loud, it interrupted our sleep. I actually wish now that Yosemite had the kinds of toilets Jemez has. It was quiet each night, except for our first night. The first night, it sounded like someone was shooting a gun or fireworks and a woman was yelling at someone. We wore ear plugs that night. Because of our site’s proximity to the entrance, you will hear loud RVs and trucks coming in and out at night. From what we could see on our evening walks, sites #46 and 47 are the most private, beautiful and spacious. I would recommend those if you can get them. Good Luck!

I love this campground and usually camp in autumn, September through December. I am a first time spring summer camper and am dismayed that the CG is closed until May. With Spring coming earlier and warmer every year, are there plans to open earlier? I am self contained and need no water or power, but restrooms would be nice.

Hi Susan,
That would be a good idea, but not sure what the US Forest Service will do regarding plans to star opening up sooner. Their budget and finding a camp host are also considerations (in addition to weather/conditions).
Thanks for the great info! I don’t see any maps that show where restrooms are, including on Rec.gov. I would like to avoid those sites. Any details on where the restrooms are located?
