Juniper Campground Bandelier National Monument New Mexico

Juniper Overview

Juniper 021

Juniper campground  has 57 single-family campsites and is located just inside the entrance to Bandelier National Monument and is a short drive to the visitor center. Five of the campsites are tent-only and there are also 4 group campsites. All single-family campsites are first-come, first-serve. Group campsites can be reserved.

The campground has 3 three loops including Abert’s Squirrel Loop (sites 1-17), Black Bear Loop (18-38), and Coyote Loop (39-57). Most campsites in Albert’s loop are rather small and more suited for tents (although #9 is a pull through). The walk-in tent sites are 34-38 and in the middle of Black Bear loop. Coyote loop has the largest campsites and best suited for larger rigs.

Campground amenities include potable/drinking water (water spigots) and flush toilets.  An RV dump station is also located on the road into the campground. The dump station’s water is turned off during winter (no dumping or water fill from mid-October to mid-April). There’s also a visitor center, picnic area and firewood available for purchase from the camp host. Campsites also have a paved parking pad, table, fire ring and grate. A shuttle bus system operates mid-May to mid-October. Cell service is fair in the area.

Bandelier National Monument – Juniper Area Recreation

Bandelier National Monument includes over 33,000 acres of  beautiful canyon and mesa country, as well as evidence of a human presence here going back over 11,000 years. Petroglyphs, dwellings carved into the soft rock cliffs and standing masonry walls pay tribute to the early days of a culture that still survives in the surrounding communities. Outdoor recreation includes hiking, biking, picnicking, stargazing, photography and exploring the historic sites. Wildlife viewing is also nice in the area.
