Manzano Mountains State Park Overview
Manzano Mountains State Park campground has 35 campsites (9 w/electric hookups and 10 are primitive/tent-only) and is located in an area with Ponderosa and pinyon pines and snapping alligator junipers. Campsites 20-30 are primitive/tent-0nly (walk-to) campsites. Campsites with hookups include sites 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 (ADA), 11, 12 and 14.
Manzano Mountains is a seasonal park, closed December 1st-March 31st. Reservations are required April 1st-October 15th and the park is first-come, first-served October 16-November 30th.
Campground amenities include drinking water, vault toilets, trash collection and a dump station. Each campsite also has a table, fire ring and gate.
Manzano Mountains State Park – Area Recreation
The park offers a year-round destination with extensive hiking and horseback riding trails. You can also enjoy picnicking, stargazing and wildlife viewing. If you’re lucky you may spot a raptor flying by your campsite!
The park is also steward of numerous species of trees. The dominant tree of the area is the ponderosa pine, however alligator juniper dot the landscape. The Alligator juniper is named for the checkered pattern on the bark of older trees, which resembles an alligator’s hide.

Spend three nights there in late July. Warm days and cool nights and as far away from everything as you can get. Most of the campsites are developed, level with fire pits, picnic tables and some with shelters. Bathrooms with flush toilets but no showers. Electric at some sites, water spigots located throughout the park. Not a lot of big rig friendly sites. At the end of the road that for the last mile or so is gravel. Very quiet and virtually empty while we were there. If there were showers, I would give it 5 stars.
