Mahogany Grove Campground has 6 nice group campsites in the Spring Mountains National Recreation Area at an elevation of 8,400 feet. It’s also a 45 minute drive from Las Vegas.
The campground is generally open late April to early November (weather permitting). It was originally one of the Civilian Conversation Corps (CCC) developed campgrounds from the 1930s. Amenities include vault toilets (3) and trash collection. Potable (drinking) water is not available. Cell service is also not available.
The group campsites are for tent camping. Vehicles up to 15 feet. Each group site also has a large parking area, tables, a fire ring BBQ grills, water and a vault toilet nearby. Each group site also has 6-7 tent pads.
McNutt Group Site can accommodate up to 6 vehicles and 25 people. The hike in distance from the parking area is 30 feet.
FDR Group Site can accommodate up to 9 vehicles and 48 people. The hike in distance from the parking area is 40 feet.
Scrugham Group Site can accommodate up to 9 vehicles and 48 people. The hike in distance from the parking area is 35 feet.
Young Group Site can accommodate up to 9 vehicles and 48 people. The hike in distance from the parking area is 60 feet.
Smith Group Site can accommodate up to 9 vehicles and 48 people. The hike in distance from the parking area is 15 feet.
CCC Group Site can accommodate up to 9 vehicles and 48 people. The hike in distance from the parking area is 10 feet.
Other campgrounds in the area include Hilltop, Fletcher View and McWilliams.
Outdoor recreation in the area includes hiking, mountain biking, stargazing, picnicking and wildlife viewing. The North Loop-Mt. Charleston National Recreation Trail begins only 1/4-mile away. Robber’s Roost and the CCC Trailhead are located nearby as well. The Spring Mountains Visitor Center is a short drive from the campground, offering guided hikes and educational programs.
