Rye Patch State Recreation Area (River) campground has 22 single-family campsites that are located below the dam and along the river. The campground is open year-round and is first-come, first-serve.
Campground amenities include drinking water, flush toilets, hot showers, trash collection and a dump station. There’s also a boat ramp at the reservoir. Campsites are suitable for tents, trailers and RVs. Some campsites have trees offering shade. Each campsite also has a table, fire ring and grill.
The Rye Patch Reservoir has 72 miles of shoreline and offers the outdoor enthusiasts a variety of recreational activities including water sports, boating, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, hiking, biking, and wildlife viewing. The area also has some nice off-riding vehicle trails, as well as ghost towns to explore.
The annual Rye Patch Nugget Shoot (metal detecting derby) is also popular and attracts visitors from across the country. More information about program scheduling may be obtained from either park staff or kiosks.
If your travels head east, you may also be interested in Southfork State Recreation Area. Kingston Campground is also nice if headed south.

Are you going to have a metal detecting derby this year?

Not sure about that. I checked the State Park’s web page and there were no updates. I recommend calling Rye Patch SRA to check: 775-442-0135
