The Snake Creek Primitive (aka Squirrel Springs) camping area is located in the south-eastern side of Great Basin National Park and has about 12 designated campsites along the road (NF-448 / Snake Creek Road). All sites are first-come, first served.  High clearance vehicles are recommended for the rough, dirt roads to access the camping area. RVs and trailers are not recommended at any time.

Each campsite can have up to 8 people, 3 tents and 2 vehicles. Larger groups must split into smaller groups within these limits, and must camp at separate sites.  Cell service is not available in the area.

Campers must be in designated sites along these roads and backcountry camping regulations apply. Tents must be within 30 feet of the site’s picnic table(s) and/or fire ring(s). Generators hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Checkout time is noon. The maximum continuous stay limit at any campsite is 14 days.

Snake Creek may be closed due to snow in winter months. Check the current conditions page for up-to-date information.

Area Recreation & Activities

Outdoor recreation in the are includes backpacking, hiking, fishing, mountain biking, picnicking and stargazing. Wildlife viewing is also great in the area.
