South Ruby Campground has 35 campsites and is located on a hill about 2 miles from Ruby Lake. It is also near the Ruby Lake National Wildlife Refuge.
The campground is open year rounds with reservations accepted May through September. A forest of pinyon pine and juniper covers the area offering partial shade to some campsites. Amenities include drinking water, vault toilets and trash collection. Firewood is available to purchase from the camp host. A charging station is also available (for a fee) to charge up your boat’s trolling motor.
Campsites can accommodate tents, trailers and RVs. Each site also has a table, fire ring and grill. Cell service is poor in the area.
Ruby Lake National Wildlife Refuge includes an expansive marsh, meadows and shrub-steppe uplands. These habitats support a diversity of wildlife seldom found in the high desert and is one of the most important waterfowl nesting areas in the region. Mule deer and pronghorn antelope can also be found in the area.
Outdoor recreation includes hiking, mountain biking, fishing, kayaking, boating (electric only), OHV trail riding, hunting, picnicking and stargazing.
You may also like Thomas Canyon Campground (about 73 miles away) or Angel Lake Campground (90 miles away).
