Timber Creek Campground has 11 campsites and is located in a forested area next to the creek at an elevation of 8,500 feet. Five of the campsites are for groups (Sites A, B, C, D and E). The group sites vary in size accommodating between 25 to 100 people, depending on the site. A few single- family sites are also first-come, first-serve.
Campsites can accommodate tents, trailers and RVs. Each site also has parking spur, table, fire ring and grill. Campground amenities include potable (drinking water) and vault toilets. Trash collection is not available (pack in / pack 0ut). Cell service is also not available in the area.
Other campgrounds in the area include East Creek and Bird Creek.
Outdoor recreation in the area includes fishing, hiking, mountain biking, OHV trail riding, horseback riding, picnicking, stargazing, hunting and wildlife viewing.
Timber Creek is a perennial stream with rainbow and brook trout fishing. The High Schells Wilderness can be accessed from a trailhead located a half-mile up the road from the campground. The 30-mile Success Loop Scenic Drive is located in the Duck Creek Basin with views of the surrounding high desert and mountain terrain.
Cave Lake State Park and Ward Charcoal Ovens State Park are a few miles from Ely. Interesting historic stone ovens and an interpretive trail are available there. The Northern Nevada Railway in Ely has a museum and offers train rides.
