Ward Mountain Campground Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest Nevada

Ward Mountain Overview

Ward Mountain 014

Ward Mountain is a beautiful and well-maintained campground (newly renovated in 2017) in the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest. The campground has 30 campsites for tents, trailers and RVs, and is laid out in 3 loops.

Loop A has sites 1-9 plus the campground host (which is not a numbered site). The next loop is just labeled “RV Sites” (although RV’s can fit just about anywhere) and has sites 10-18. Loop B has sites 19-30. Sites 1 and 6 are the only pull throughs but most are rather large back-ins. A few are double sites (5, 22 and 25). Group camping is also available.  The campground is generally open May through September (weather/snow permitting).

There is currently no water at Ward Mountain campground (although there are spigots). According the the host, the nearby Robinson Mine has depleted the aquifer. So instead of charging $8 per night, the cost is currently only $4 ($2 for Golden Age!). Vault toilets are available. There is also a day-use area and amphitheater. Campsites also have a table, fire ring and grate.

Ward Mountain – Area Recreation

There are 20 miles of biking and hiking and a 9-hole disc golf course a mile away. Ely, with all the supplies you would ever need, is only 7 miles away. Other outdoor activities include horseback riding, volleyball, horseshoes, picnicking, wildlife viewing and winter/snow sports (cross-country skiing, snowshoeing).

For those who want to climb Ward Mountain, it tops out at almost 10,800 feet and offers spectacular views of the surrounding area.
