Devil’s Tombstone campground has 22 single-family campsites and is located next to Stoney Clove Creek in the Catskill Forest Preserve. Legend has it that the devil use to prowl this area back in the early settlement days of the Catskills.
Campsites are best suited for tents and trailers. Each site also has a table, fire ring and grate.
Campground amenities include drinking water and vault toilets. There’s also a picnic area, playground, volleyball court and firewood available for sale.
The campground is an excellent basecamp to hike the many trails in the area. The Hunter Mountain trail is popular, with the highest historic fire tower in the state of New York. Other activities include hunting, fishing, hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, snowmobiling and wildlife viewing and exploring historic sites. Swimming, boating and showers are also available at the North-South Lake campground (8 miles away)
