Glimmerglass State Park campground has 66 campsites set in a forested area next to Ostego Lake (the “Glimmerglass” of James Fenimore Cooper’s Leatherstocking Tales).
Campsites can accommodate tents, trailers and RVs. Sites 1-37 have electric hookups. The other sites are standard (no hookups). Each campsite also a parking spur, table fire ring and grill.
Campsites 50-55 are walk-to (tent only sites) near Beaver Pond. The walk from the parking area to the sites range from 60 to 100 feet. Each of these sites also have a table, fire ring and grill.
Campground amenities include drinking water, flush toilets, hot-water showers and trash collection The park also has three group pavilions, a picnic/day use area, a playground, basketball courts and swimming beach.
Outdoor recreation in the area includes hiking, biking, canoeing, kayaking, paddle-boarding, fishing, swimming, picnicking and wildlife viewing. Ice fishing, sledding, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing are also popular in the winter.
The rolling, partially-wooded terrain is host to a wide variety of wildlife. An uphill trail through the forest affords a spectacular view of Otsego Lake; the Beaver Pond and Woodland trails are picturesque and of interest for the variety of wildflowers, shrubs, ferns and mosses.
The Hyde Hall Mansion, Covered Bridge, and a self-guided Beaver Pond Nature Trail are within park boundaries and open to visitors.
