Beavertail campground has 15 single family campsites and 2 group sites along the Deschutes River about 21 miles north of Maupin. The campground has nice views of the surrounding canyon cliffs and some sites are waterfront with views of the river.
This BLM campground is first-come, first serve and has potable water (one pump) and vault toilets. Each campsite also has a table, fire ring and grate. A few sites have some shade from trees. A raft / drift-boat launch is also available at the campground.
Fishing is the main attraction in the area, but visitors can also enjoy hiking, biking, picnicking and wildlife viewing. Rafting, kayaking and tubing are also popular with rafters often using the campground on overnight trips. FYI – a ‘boater pass’ is required for all boating or floating in the Lower Deschutes.
Other campgrounds in the Deschutes River Recreation Area include: Rattlesnake Canyon, Jones Canyon and Twin Springs.
