Jackson On The Applegate River Campground Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest Oregon

Jackson On The Applegate River Overview

Jackson On The Applegate River 007

Jackson On The Applegate River has 12 campsites and is located near to the ONLY known Bigfoot trap in the world (more on that later).  The campground is also right along the shores of the river.

There are 8 tent-only campsites, 3 RV sites (no hookups) and 1 group campsite.  Camp trailers are not recommended due to tight corners and short campsite spur lengths (up to 25 feet). Each site also has a table, fire ring and grill. Campground amenities include drinking water, flush toilets and trash collection. There is also a camp store that rents kayaks and paddle boards. A boat ramp is near the campground providing access to the Applegate River.  Cell service is poor in the area.

You might also like Beaver Sulphur, Union Creek or Panther Flat or Dillon Creek campgrounds.

Jackson On The Applegate River – Bigfoot Trap

The (inactive) Bigfoot trap was built in 1974 by the North American Wildlife Research Team and is found along Collings Mountain Trail. he trap was inspired by a miner who lived near the Applegate River who claimed to have found 18-inch-long, human-like tracks in his garden. The organization operated the trap, keeping it baited with carcasses for six years, but caught only bears. Currently the Forest Service keeps an eye on the trap, but otherwise does not maintain it.

Area Recreation & Activities

Besides searching for Bigfoot, you can fish, swim, hiking, mountain bike, kayak, canoe, paddle board and picnic. Wildlife viewing is also great although sightings of Bigfoot are sketchy at best.
