Sandbeach Campground has 81 campsites for tents, trailers and RVs. It’s located along Oregon’s North Coast and part of the Sand Lake Recreation Area. The campground is popular for OHV enthusiasts and offers easy access to the beach area and over 1,100 acres of dunes. Campsites can accommodate trailers up to 40 feet.
The campground has drinking water, 7 flush toilets, 1 vault toilet. Each campsite has a paved parking spur, table, fire ring and grill. There’s also a picnic area, hiking trails and a friendly campground host. All campsites are reservable, but must be made at least 3 days prior to arrival. Also, there are not any RV hookups or dump station available at this campground.
Off-road vehicle riding is the main attraction, but the San Lake Estuary also offers fishing, canoeing, kayaking, swimming, crabbing, hiking and wildlife viewing.
Although not a OHV destination, Cape Lookout State Park is also on Oregon’s North Coast and about 10 miles to the north.

There is no longer a dump station at SandBeach Campground. It was removed around ten years ago. Also only 81 sites remain due to changing coastline.
Thanks Mela,
We’ve updated our campground info for Sandbeach campground.
when will campsites be able to be reserved fpr july
thanks shelley
Hi Shelly,
The reservation schedule for Sandbeach is 6 months prior to the day of arrival. For example, if you want to arrive July 1, then the first day you can make a reservation is January 1. If you want to arrive July 2, then January 2 is the day you’d try and make a reservation. You can click on the ‘Make A Reservation’ button on the Sandbeach campground page to check availability/make a reservation.
Is it still first come on thansgiving week or do I need to make reservation for the parking lot
Hi Geraldine,
Yes, you can reserve campsites at Sandbeach Campground over Thanksgiving weekend. At present there is availability (about 25% of the campsites). You can click on the ‘Make A Reservation’ button to check availability, pricing and make a reservation.
Is the campground full in Sept or if you come without reservations will there be sites open to choose from?
Hi DB,
Sandbeach is a popular campground, but after Labor Day there is more availability. Click on the ‘Make A Reservation’ button to view availability in September.
I grew up on Derrick road Sand Lake Oregon was my home at one point. I use to swim in the Bowl in the middle of sand dunes we would run or roll down the mountain and splash into the water. Have fun thank you.
HI Gina,
Sounds like you had some wonderful times in the Sandbeach area!
I would like to know which spot is the group camp. I can’t see it on live maps
Hi Marcia,
There are no group campsites at Sandbeach Campground. All are single-family (standard) campsites.
You may want to recommend people look at the Forest Service web page for the most accurate and up to date information about Sand Lake and Sand Beach campground. There are NO RV hook-ups or dump stations there. Also, you can not make reservations within 3 days of arrival.
Thanks Scot,
We updated our over info as well.
If you cannot make reservations within three days of arrival can you drive down and pick and spot that’s open? And if so how do know if someone has already reserved that spot?
Hi Leslee,
We’re not sure about the policy at Sandbeach Campground for camping at an unoccupied site w/o a reservation. Usually the park ranger/camp manager will know if the site is reserved. I recommend calling the campground and seeing if someone can answer your question (if they answer the call): 503 392-5100
Why are there no photo’s of campsite 80? That’s the one I need to see the most of.
Hi Missy,
Sorry we didn’t have a photo of campsite #80. It could be that the site was occupied when we were photographing the campground and the camper didn’t want their photo taken.
Is there campsites that can accommodate a 44foot trailer
Hi James,
Rec.gov lists the campsites as having a maximum trailer length of 40 feet. Many campsites do have an overhang off the back (with another 4-5 feet), but I’m not sure how strict the ranger/camp host will be on check-in (measuring trailers).
